Glenn Greenwald is standing strong in his defense of podcast host Joe Rogan. He wrote a long Twitter thread this week that lashed out at the mainstream media. He said that they were far more likely to spread misinformation than Rogan was. And he said they were far less likely to apologize or admit fault.
Greenwald believes that censorship has become the North Star for liberals. But they only focus on the message that doesn’t line up with their own ideology. He said that if the left can force Spotify to cut Joe Rogan, their star, then no one is safe from what he called their “petty-tyrant tactics.”
Greenwald described an obsession within the liberal movement to find new and creative ways to silence their enemies. They now not only look for “hate speech,” but any message they deem to be “misinformation” or “disinformation.” But they possess a blind eye when the people that spread this are their pet news agencies.
Greenwald wrote, “When liberals’ favorite media outlets, from CNN and NBC to The New York Times and The Atlantic, spend four years disseminating one fabricated Russia story after the next — from the Kremlin hacking into Vermont’s heating system and Putin’s sexual blackmail over Trump to bounties on the heads of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, the Biden email archive being ‘Russian disinformation,’ and a magical mystery weapon that injures American brains with cricket noises — none of that is ‘disinformation’ that requires banishment.”
Greenwald is furious over the censorship attempt that is calling for Spotify to take action against Joe Rogan. They are claiming that he is spreading misinformation regarding COVID-19. Some liberal-leaning musicians have pulled their music from the podcast giant. There continues to be loud public angst against Rogan, so the first step is that Spotify is going to put a disclaimer at the beginning of Rogan’s show when he is going to discuss COVID.
Greenwald has noted that there is a war against any platforms that are devoted to free discourse and will not “capitulate to the demands” of Democratic politicians.
“The emerging campaign to pressure Spotify to remove Joe Rogan from its platform is perhaps the most illustrative episode yet of both the dynamics at play and the desperation of liberals to ban anyone off-key. It was only a matter of time before this effort really galvanized in earnest. Rogan has simply become too influential, with too large of an audience of young people, for the liberal establishment to tolerate his continuing to act up,” Greenwald wrote.
The independent journalist went even further by comparing what they are doing to Rogan with how the liberal media dealt with Former President Donald Trump. He talked about how they “scorn” someone to who they feel superior. He used Allison Morrow from CNN as an example. She made fun of Rogan with condescending tones. She said that CNN practiced “this thing called journalism.” She said the vet sources and speaks to a wide spectrum of sources. Then, Morrow said that Rogan could talk with her if he wanted “some tips.”
Greenwald is challenging the media to show what Rogan does that the mainstream liberal media doesn’t do. In fact, he says that the mainstream media does it with far more harm done. He talked about the fact that these media outlets become “echo chambers” and they hardly ever admit their wrongdoings. On the contrary, he said that Rogan constantly airs people who do not agree with him, and he freely acknowledges error.
Greenwald believes that the hatred imposed on Rogan from corporate media is just “petty professional jealousy.” They just hate anyone who succeeds when they think they do not deserve such success.
