Federal prosecutors in Delaware have begun an investigation of Hunter Biden and according to United States media sources, it is focused on foreign business dealings in China. Of course, Hunter Biden is of the belief that he has done nothing wrong. The Biden-Harris transition team does not seem particularly worried about the investigation either.
The president-elect is said to be “deeply proud” of Hunter. The transition team issued a statement, saying that Hunter has “fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger”. Hunter learned of the investigation earlier this week but has not disclosed any additional details.
“I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisers,” said the younger Biden. This investigation is not a new development, despite what some political observers may think.
It began back in 2018 before Joe Biden had announced any intention of running for president.
The GOP took direct aim at Hunter Biden during the campaign, pointing out his business dealings in China and Ukraine during Biden’s tenure as vice president. When the Democratic-run House of Representatives elected to impeach President Trump, the Ukraine issue was at the heart of the discussion.
Trump wanted to make sure that Ukraine was aware of the Biden family’s deceit. It did not take long before Trump was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Senate, which is Republican-held.
This was a predictable series of events but that did not stop the Democrats from wasting lots of time. They also laid waste to a sizable amount of taxpayer money with these frivolous legal proceedings.
Joe Biden is in the process of assembling a cabinet and this investigation could not have come at a worse time. If the investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings continues into the presidency, the Biden attorney general pick would have the ability to oversee the investigation.
While some may have thought that we were done hearing about the Biden family now, Hunter is sure to stay in the news.
This revelation is not much of a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention over the past few years. The official confirmation of the investigation is going to lead to further scrutiny for the president-elect.
This is not an issue that he was looking forward to dealing with. Unless there is a speedy resolution, the investigation is going to cast a dark cloud over his presidency.
The Senate runoffs in Georgia are going to take on an even greater level of importance now. If the GOP maintains control over the Senate, there will be numerous hearings about the finances of Hunter Biden.
If there are any connections to his father, these are also going to come to light. The concerns about the case were once political but now? The Biden family could be in hot water from a legal standpoint.
Of course, the Trump naysayers are going to claim that he is launching the investigation as a form of payback. In reality, David Weiss of Delaware is a veteran prosecutor. He worked as an interim US attorney during the Biden/Obama presidency.
This hardly seems like anyone is actively trying to bring harm to the Biden family. Hunter is simply going to be forced to deal with the consequences of his actions.
He believes that he acted in an appropriate manner. If he is telling the truth, this whole matter will be forgotten about before too long.
If not? His father is in for a political firestorm. No one ever wants to be under the federal microscope, especially when it comes to a criminal investigation. Observers on both sides of the aisle are sure to be watching this one very closely. The next few months are sure to be interesting.
