As Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden’s incompetency becomes more and more apparent, Democrats are bracing for the impact of a potential win at the ballot boxes for President Donald Trump and are evolving elaborate backup plans that could install Biden in the Oval Office.
For House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a second Trump term seems to be untenable and she’s preparing to do something about it. The veteran of Congress is encouraging her fellow Democrats to stack the congressional deck in their favor, in the hopes that the election will be left up to them.
According to Fox News, Pelosi is trying to win the type of majority in November that would allow her to successfully win a 12th Amendment situation, in which congressional representatives get to decide who presides in the Oval Office.
“We must achieve that majority of delegations or keep the Republicans from doing so,” Pelosi said in a letter to colleagues Sunday. “Because we cannot leave anything to chance, House Majority PAC is doing everything it can to win more delegations for Democrats. It’s sad we have to have to plan this way, but it’s what we must do to ensure the election is not stolen.”
The California Democrat went on to encourage her fellow Democrats to remember what might be at stake if they don’t have the support needed to effect change all the way to the top. According to Fox News, if Congress is asked to weigh in, it will be after new congressional members have taken up residence in Washington, on Jan 6. That means if Democrats can strengthen their hold on Congress’ lower house, they will be in a stronger position in January.
“That’s why it’s so important that we support House Majority PAC right now. We have outstanding candidates in these key districts and they have built strong campaigns, but we must forcefully ensure they win. Simply put, this strategy to protect our democracy and elect Joe Biden will take an all-out effort and resources.”
Experts expect that the 2020 presidential election will be a close call, in some way. Even though each side is sure that the other will attempt to cheat, the one thing that all sides are sure of is that, as of yet, there is no clear winner, as October closes in at a rapid pace.
Fox News reported that the kind of election mess referenced by Pelosi hasn’t happened since 1876, but the House speaker seems to have some inkling of what might be coming down the pike for her and her Democratic underlings in Congress.
Pelosi’s announcement seemed curious to many since most think it will be much more likely that if the decision of who wins on Nov. 3 is left in the balance, the decision will be left up to the Supreme Court. That guess is why the death of Ruth Bader Gensburg caused the massive uproar that it did; because a right-leaning court could cinch the president’s second term if the results are muddy.
The second part of that equation is why Republicans are dead set on confirming a ninth Supreme Court justice before Congress goes to recess later this fall, and why Liberals are irate at the idea of a fifth consistent conservative on the bench.
The party that has developed a penchant for taking the power out of the hands of the people seems to be facing an election that will likely be decided by politicians and judges that they hadn’t planned to be in place when their brilliant plans came together. Makes you wonder if these best-laid plans were made by the mice or the men.
